About Me

◆ Emma Frieze Biography ◆

Photo: Emma Frieze Photo by Cory Keller

Hello, my name is Emma Frieze, and I am a strategic communications and marketing student at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. I am currently exploring various career paths in communications, and two areas I am particularly interested in are advertising and public relations. Outside of class, I am currently a member of The Agency, a student-run advertising agency in the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. I also enjoy being involved in the School of Business’s Undergraduate Business Council, and I find joy in creative writing. To prepare for my future career, I am trying to expand my skills by learning technology skills such as how to make webpages using WordPress. This is the first semester that I am taking a coding class, and I am using this page to showcase sample CSS/HTML work from JOUR 215.

◆ A Favorite Topic: My Arts Experiences ◆

In my spare time, I love engaging with the performing arts:

Before coming to college, I was a dancer for sixteen years, and I still enjoy supporting arts events. Photo: High School Senior Year - Dance Photo Photo by Cory Keller

I am currently working towards the KU Arts Engagement Certificate.

I had a PR/Communications internship this past summer at Starlight Theatre, which presents Broadway shows and concerts in Kansas City, MO.

◆ My Favorite Quote ◆

As a final introduction to who I am, here is my favorite quote:

“Yesterday is history; tomorrow is a mystery; today is a gift. That’s why they call it the present.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

About My Coding Experience

Before joining JOUR 215, I had no experience with coding. Learning about the markup languages was completely new for me. Now, I have some experience with writing HTML and CSS, and I even have some experience incorporating JavaScript that I have found on the web. Below is one of my favorite projects from this class:

◆ Slideshow: Photos I Have Taken of Places That Are Meaningful to Me ◆

Boardwalk Photo: Credit - Emma Frieze

Photo 1: Disney’s Boardwalk, Orlando, FL. This is a place I have visited with my family. It means something to me because it reminds me of a wonderful vacation. I was proud of this photo because I like that I was able to capture eeriness in the scene.

Photo 2: View From a Car Window, Somewhere in KS. This photo is meaningful to me because I have lived my entire life in Kansas, and I have spent a lot of time driving unfamiliar country roads. I like this photo also because it is abstract, and I like how the car window alters the image.

Mountain Photo: Credit - Emma Frieze

Photo 3: Mountains, Vail, CO. Vail, Colorado is perhaps my favorite place that I have ever been. Looking at this image of the mountains gives me indescribable peace, and I was happy that I was able to capture a good photo of one of my favorite places in the world.

Photo 4: Lincoln Memorial, Washington, D.C. This photo is meaningful to me because I have really enjoyed my visits to Washington, D.C. This image is specifically meaningful to me because I once went to a journalism conference there that solidified my interest in communications as a career.
